Sea salt, sand dunes, secret Britain and a dog named Bugsy

Saturday  5th July – The Big Day arrives

My name is Bugsy Bennett. I am a friendly 5 year old  Springador  (Springer x Labrador) and people seem to fall in love with me each time I go out for a walk.

The place where I hang my lead is in Berkshire. I share it with my two doting owners , Karen Bennett, a pet photographer (I am her favourite model!) and her husband Mark Bennett, a nutritional scientist (he ensures my diet of raw Honey’s real dog food  keeps me bright eyed and bushy tailed). And their two daughters, who give me tasty nibbles like carrots and healthy dog treats. Not forgetting an elderly cat called Muckles who I love dearly.

Some time ago, I overheard Mark and Karen talking about casting off on a big adventure on their boat round the British Isles. I hid under my duvet, terrified they might leave me behind. I saw them packing and preparing through large doleful eyes and wished something would scupper their plans.

Surprise! I was coming too! And they had thought of everything, from my little shoes, life jacket and mittens to toe clippers, Beautiful Joe’s liver treats, soap, scraper, my water bowl and a towel.  I leapt straight into the car and we were off!

Seeing their boat in Portsmouth my trembling heart skipped a beat. I was no salty sea dog yet but I felt safe with my owners, who gave me my special shoes and a life jacket to wear. I immediately knew my place; Mark was the skipper, Karen, the Chief Cook, Bottle washer and everything in-between and I am the Figurehead.  The three of us are all on dog watch to discover seashells and sand dunes, surf, sunshine, secret Britain, Beach Life  and big adventures together! Watch this space…
